In case you missed it, we’ve traveled back in time to 2002—an iconic era when Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were together and starring in the never-critically-acclaimed-not-even-once film Gigli together. And by that, I mean: Bennifer has staged a zombielike return from the ashes of their relationship, gotten MARRIED, and can’t stop making out on yachts and random street corners.
It’s all just frankly HAPPENING, and obviously no one is okay, not even close. But in order to fully understand how meaningful this reunion is (and why the recent breakup rumors have us s-h-o-o-k), we have to go back. Back to the beginning. There are a buncha moments where J.Lo is snapped wearing her ring while Ben isn't, which leads people to be very much 👀. Meanwhile, on June 8, TMZ reports that the couple is "quietly" trying to sell their $60 million home. Plus, an insider dishes to Entertainment Tonight on June 10 that "Jen is touring houses and shopping around for her own home. She has been leaning on her mom, sisters, and kids during this transitional period."
But when it comes to whether these two are actually splitting, a source tells the Daily Mail on June 6 that the Atlas star remains committed to saving the marriage: "She wants this marriage to work so much that she is willing to make any sacrifice including giving up being J.Lo. She doesn't want to be divorced. She doesn't want to end up like Madonna—on her own at 60."
As for how Ben's ex Jennifer Garner feels about the whole sitch? An insider notes to Us Weekly that she "is encouraging Ben to work on his marriage to Jen. She fully supports their relationship and wants nothing more than for him to be happy."
Fast-forward to June 21, and an interview Ben has with Kevin Hart on the comedian’s show Hart to Heart goes live. In it, the actor makes some rare comments about his marriage to J.Lo. "We went somewhere with her—I can’t remember because she’s so famous, and she creates this—people love her, and she really represents something important to people," he begins before doing an impression of fans screaming her name and adding, "It’s amazing, you know what I mean?"
The actor then recalls visiting Times Square in NYC, saying traffic was bad so he told her, "Fuck it, baby, we’re going to be late...we gotta walk a block and a half." Apparently, J.Lo "didn’t say shit," but when they got out of the car and went through Times Square, "the shit was like a-fuckin' bananas."

First things first: one of the co-chairs of the Met Gala, J.Lo, shows up to the coveted fashion event solo. When asked about Ben, Jen reveals that he has filming commitments in LA (perhaps Netflix's The Greatest Roasts of All Time special).
On May 14, TMZ reports that Jennifer is seemingly shopping for homes in Beverly Hills alongside her longtime producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. The duo is pictured without Ben, and according to the outlet, Jen could've been "tagging along for Elaine" or "looking at houses for other people." ICYMI, she and Ben bought a $60 million mansion in Beverly Hills. However...
By May 16, TMZ reports that Ben has been staying at a Brentwood home all by himself. This is confirmed by Us Weekly later that same day, and then on May 19, an Entertainment Tonight source claims "they have been staying in separate homes and the tension has been high."
By May 28, an Us Weekly source notes that the two communicate "primarily to discuss essential matters and updates."

Around the same time, the singer makes an appearance in a Variety video in which she revisits notable lines from her movies over the years—including one from Gigli.
"The first time meeting him on that film was at the read-through," J.Lo recalls during the exercise. "They did a read-through of the whole thing and I remember kind of just walking in and I think he was outside, smoking a cigarette and I saw him and we just talked for like a minute and then I sat down and we did the read-through."
"I don't remember a whole bunch more about it, but I remember being on the set with him every day and loving it," she adds.

And meanwhile, Ben opens up *a lot* during a Hollywood Reporter interview tied to his new movie Air, so we’ve gone ahead and taken the liberty to sift through it and highlight all the times he speaks about Jen—yw!
Apparently, she had tons of input in the Air script: Namely, when it came to providing significant context to the influence of Michael Jordan and his shoes at the time. “She is incredibly knowledgeable about the way fashion evolves through the culture as a confluence of music, sports, entertainment, and dance,” the actor begins. “She helped me in talking about the way in which a part of the reason why Jordans [the shoes] were so meaningful is because culture and style in America is 90 percent driven by Black culture. Black culture has historically pioneered music, dance, fashion, and it’s then been stolen, appropriated, remarketed as Elvis or whatever. And in this case, [Nike], a white-run corporate entity, was starting to do business with African American athletes in an identity affiliation sales thing. They were really taking value from what Michael Jordan represents and who he is. I don’t think the meaning can be overstated. They’re going to switch from ‘Hey, guys, we are a nice shoe’ to ‘If Mike has it, you want it.’”
And he thinks Jen is v savvy when it comes to social media: “My wife’s a genius at that. I don’t know if there’s anybody who understands Instagram better than her. In fact, she gave me a talk this morning before this interview. She thinks that because of experiences that I’ve had, I’ve become very guarded. And she’s right. I view these things as land mines, where if you say one wrong thing, your career might be over.”
She helped Ben after an incident where he was misquoted as saying that he blamed ex Jennifer Garner for his drinking: “It didn’t matter how many times I said, ‘I do not feel this way. The film took us back to the early 2000s, when beyond cringeworthy and oftentimes racist media coverage of the singer was standard throughout the entirety of her relationship with Ben.
