In the final episode of last season, Game of Thrones finally dropped the bombshell we’ve been waiting for: Jon Snow isn’t really a Snow after all. Sam and Bran brought their citadel research and three-eyed raven visions together to figure out that Jon’s parents aren’t Ned Stark and some random woman from King’s Landing but instead Rhaegar Targaryen (the Mad King’s oldest son) and Lyanna Stark (Ned’s sister), who were married in a secret ceremony before Jon (or should we say Aegon?) was born. So while this means he’s not only not a bastard but is also the product of two extremely powerful families, we’re here to ask the really important question: What does this revelation mean for Jon and his new lover, Daenerys?
Well, simply put, Dany is Jon’s aunt. Her much older brother, Rhaegar, was the firstborn child of King Aerys II, aka the Mad King, whom Jaime later kills. Rhaegar is initially married to Princess Elia Martell of Dorne, the younger sister of Oberyn. But then, at a jousting tournament at King’s Landing, Rhaegar meets Lyanna for the first time and is smitten right away. When he eventually wins the tournament, he passes right over his own wife to give his winner’s crown of winter roses to Lyanna, even though she’s already betrothed to Robert Baratheon. We can only imagine the side-eye that Elia and Robert were serving at that moment.
A few months later, the two soon-to-be lovers met up in the Riverlands, and this is where things get complicated. Many people believed that Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna and raped her, including Robert, who decided that the appropriate response was to lead a rebellion against the Mad King.

.
But thanks to Sam and Bran, we now know the couple was actually in love and chose to run away together and get married. Rhaegar is eventually killed by Robert in the rebellion, and Lyanna, who was found by Ned inside the Tower of Joy moments before dying from childbirth, asks Ned to take her baby, Aegon Targaryen (aka Jon Snow), and keep him safe.
So what does this mean for present-day Jon and Dany? Well, it means that they’re unknowingly sleeping with a family member. And while marriage between Targaryens is known to be pretty common to keep the bloodlines pure (Dany’s mom and dad were siblings), we’re not so sure honorable Jon would be able to look past it.

It also means Jon has more of a claim to the Iron Throne than Dany does, since he’s a legitimate son of Dany’s older brother. But he did already agree to bend the knee to Dany, and we’re not so sure if you can call take-backs because you just found out you’re genetically the most powerful man in Westeros.
