Sex Education season four sees a whole host of new characters joining our screens, as well as viewers saying goodbye to some of the more recognisable cast. So why isn't Jakob in Sex Education season four?
In season three, Jean reveals to Jakob, her on-again, off-again boyfriend and Ola’s dad, that she is pregnant. They get back together, with Ola moving in with Jean and Otis (awkward AF!).
At the end of the season, Jean has a very difficult and almost life-threatening labour, but survives and the family decides to name the baby Joy. After giving birth, Jean opens up Joy’s paternity test, and we learn that Jakob (played by Mikael Persbrandt) might not actually be Joy’s father.

Then, in the season four trailer, we see a clip of Jean at a sensory baby class, where she's asked to introduce herself and baby Joy, and share a fact about herself. "My partner left, because he’s not the father," she tells the group.
Ahh. So that might explain why Jakob left!
In June 2022, Patricia Allison who plays Jakob's daughter Ola revealed she wouldn't be reprising her role in Sex Education season 4, either. Appearing on Capital Xtra’s breakfast show, she said: "I absolutely have loved being on Sex Education so, so much, and playing Ola.

"But unfortunately, I won’t be joining the team for season four. Some other opportunities have come up. So, I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve genuinely loved it."
Sex Education season four lands on Netflix on 21st September
